Philjames

Philjames received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Printmaking) from the The National Art School, Sydney in 2002. He has been a finalist in the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship, the Dobell Prize for Drawing, the Blake Prize and the John Fries Memorial Prize. In 2011 he was awarded a Creative Industries Development fund grant and also completed an Australian Cultural Residency program in Beijing. In 2015 he received an Art Incubator Foundation Grant, which saw him return to Jingde Zhen, China, to complete work on a self directed project. This residency resulted in the solo exhibition SMILEX3D (2015) at Chalk Horse Gallery, Sydney. Solo exhibitions have been presented at Alaska Projects, Damien Minton Gallery, and Ray Hughes Gallery.Group exhibitions in public institutions include Conquest of Space: Science Fiction & Contemporary Art, curated by Andrew Frost, Galleries UNSW, Sydney; The Future’s Knot, curated by Peter Johnson, The Lock Up, Newcastle; Wonder mountain, curated by Joanna Bayndrian, Penrith Regional Art Gallery; and The Boondocks Experiment: Off the beaten track, Hawkesbury Regional Art Gallery. In 2014 the artist monograph Philjames was published by Sarsaparilla Press. Philjames is represented by Galerie pompom, Sydney.
