Nicola Smith

Born in Sydney, Nicola Smith completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the National Art School, and her Honours year at the University of Tasmania. She has exhibited both locally and internationally, with solo shows at Sarah Cottier Gallery, Mop Projects, First draft , Salamanca Arts Centre, Inflight ARI, Sawtooth ARI, and The MacDowell Colony, New Hampshire, USA. Group shows have been at Artspace, ACCA, KNULP, Kudos Gallery, and Contemporary Art Tasmania. Smith was a finalist in The 2015 NSW Emerging Visual Art Fellowship at Artspace.  Smith’s work was in the 2016 Redlands Konica Minolta Art Prize curated by Mikala Dwyerat the National Art School Gallery, and in Painting. More Painting at ACCA, curated by Annika Kristensen, Hannah Mathews, and Max Delany.

Nicola Smith has undertaken studio residencies at 66 Oxford St, Lennox St Studios, Contemporary Art Tasmania, and 55 Sydenham Rd. In 2006 Smith was artist-in-residence at The MacDowell Colony, New Hampshire, USA. In 2014 she was artist-in-residence at printmaking studio Atelier de l'ile, Québec, Canada.  From 2010 – 2012 Smith was a director on the board of Inflight ARI. And from 2011 -15 she worked in Front-of-House at MONA. She is currently a Host at the MCA.

Her work has been reviewed in Art Collector, ArtsHub, Art Guide, Time Out, The Hobart Mercury, and featured in Sturgeon Magazine, and Runway.

Nicola Smith is represented by Sarah Cottier Gallery. She lives and works in Sydney.
