Cameron Stead

Cameron Stead (b. 1988, Australia) is a Sydney-based visual artist whose practice encompasses painting, installation and multi-media. His work responds to an expanded idea of self-portraiture and often draws attention to the dualisms and paradoxes played out in everyday life, as well as in the art-making process itself. Stead regularly engages with a range of different materials in the place of paint, such as latex, plastic, steel and light, to explore the conceptual, symbolic and physical limitations of an object.

Stead was the winner of the revered Kilgour Prize in 2017 and was also featured in Vogue Living as an ‘up-and-coming artist to know in 2018’. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the National Art School, as well as a Bachelor of Communication from the University of Newcastle.
