The next 3 years
The restoration of Bronte Gully is a long-term project. To a certain extent, nature, climate and the seasons drive how fast the work occurs. Council’s ban on Glyphosate use has also meant that some weed control actions previously managed with herbicide use now have to be undertaken by hand, which is much slower and more costly. Rushing this restoration could result in major new weed infestations, slope soil erosion and fauna loss due to habitat overclearing. The following summarises the intended management actions for the next 5 years, but are subject to timing changes due to weather and the site’s response to weed management.
Up to June 2023
- Erosion control and weed control in Zone 5.
- Targeted Vine Control in Zones 6a, 6b, 6c, 11, 7a, 7b, 13a
- Maintenance weeding and infill planting in Zones 9, 8a, 8b, 4, 11c, 13b & 7c
- Maintenance weeding in Zones 1a, and 13a.
July 2023 to June 2024
- Planting and weed control in Zone 5.
- Targeted vine control in Zones 6a, 6b, 11, 7a, and 7b
- Erosion control and planting in Zone 3.

- Primary weed control and erosion control in Zone 8b west (towards 7a)
- Maintenance weeding in Zones 1a, 4, 7c, 11c, 13a & 13b.
- Primary weed control, including vines and Coral Tree treatment, in Zone 6c
July 2024 to June 2025
- Maintenance of planting in Zone 5 and 8b including infill planting where required.
- Targeted vine control in Zones 6a, 6b, 11, 7a, and 7b

More detailed Management Actions are outlined in the Bronte Gully Ecological Restoration Action Plan 2015-2045.
