Bronte Ocean Pool Upgrades
Project Update - July 2024
There are two stages to the planned Bronte Ocean Pool Upgrades. Works on Stage One, the Pool Lining Removal Works, are starting on 8 July 2024.
The pool will be closed for the duration of the works with the expected completion and re-opening of the pool to be the end of August 2024, weather permitting.
We thank you for your patience and understanding while works are in progress. For further information about the project and alternate pools to visit while works are in progress, please visit our Have Your Say project page.
Bronte Ocean Pool Upgrades
Stage 1 : Council will be removing and refurbishing the pool lining by grinding the original concrete lining to make it a smoother, non-slip surface. This work will take place across July-August during Winter 2024, during which time the pool will be closed.
Stage 2: To improve safety, pool water quality and avoid frequent and long pool closures, Council engaged an expert ocean pool consultancy to devise a new plan for the pool infrastructure, which includes:
- replacing the existing pumphouse (which is approaching the end of its serviceable life)
- installing a new, best-practice water pump with filters and strainers that prevent blockages from debris and seaweed
- rebuilding and re-positioning the stairs leading to and from the pumphouse
The pumphouse, pump and stair work are scheduled for Winter 2025, during which time the pool will be closed.
Project Background
Bronte Ocean Pool is a treasured destination in Waverley. To avoid closures and bring the infrastructure up to best-practice standards, Council is planning upgrades to improve the safety, sustainability and functionality of the pool.
The concept design plans for the pump, pumphouse and maintenance stairs were open for public feedback until 12 December, 2023.
Thank you to everyone who made submissions either online, by email or in person during our onsite information session on 7 December.
Council officers are currently consolidating all the feedback received during the community consultation period. A full report will be available on this page in early 2024.
Visit the Have Your Say page for further background information about the project.
