Tamarama Surf Lifesaving Club Upgrade
Update - June 2023
On 30 June 2023, Council signed a contract with Schiavello Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd who were successful in their submission to complete works for the Boot Factory (in Bondi Junction) and Tamarama Surf Life Saving Club projects.
Schiavello will be on site from Monday 3 July, commencing detailed site clean-ups and an establishment period.
We will update this page with the approximate project completion time as soon as it is known.
Background
Waverley Council in partnership with Tamarama Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) is embarking on an upgrade of the iconic surf club building.
The redevelopment will improve amenities to cater to the needs of modern lifesaving, public education and engagement with the community.
The upgrade will provide:
- Improved facilities for female members
- Improved vantage points for beach surveillance during patrols
- Improved environmental sustainability
- Additional storage space for rescue equipment
- Improved areas for education and training activities such as First Aid courses
- Offer broader use by community groups and members of the public
- Addresses acoustic bleed to neighbouring properties
The DA was approved in 2015 by independent Waverley Local Planning Panel. Council and the Club signed a Public Private Partnership to continue the project in 2019.
Update - September 2022
Unfortunately construction has been severely impacted by COVID and recent inclement weather. This project is now expected to be completed by early 2023.
With the recent good weather the first floor walls should be up by the end of the month.
Please follow Waverley Weekly to be updated on this project.
This project is part funded by the Australian Government via the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program. The LRCI Program supports local Councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia, supporting jobs and the resilience of local economies to help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.
