Workshops

transportWe run a series of free cycling skill and bike maintenance workshops to encourage the safe use of bikes. Please note that our workshops are designed for adults and there is a minimum age of 14 years.

Cycling skill workshops aim to improve the cycling skills of less confident riders, those who haven’t ridden for a while or those who would like to start commuting using a bike.

We run cycling skill courses and beginner level bike maintenance courses. Bookings are essential.

Beginner level - Bike maintenance

The bike maintenance workshop complements the cycling skills workshops to help you feel confident with the maintenance of your bike. Learn how to care for your bicycle including general cleaning, brake and gear adjustments and chain maintenance.

This is a practical workshop so please bring your bike along.

Rusty Riders Cycling Skills Workshop

Haven’t ridden for a while and feeling a bit rusty? Is your bike gathering dust in the garage?

Designed for wobblers and people who know how to ride but need better bike handling skills before attempting a ride on the road, this workshop will teach you:

  • starting and stopping with ease
  • using your gears
  • stopping safely and suddenly
  • looking behind whilst in a straight line
  • signalling left and right.

This workshop is ideal for:

  • those who haven't ridden for many years
  • those who have only just learnt to ride.

Please bring your helmet and a roadworthy bicycle with gears.

Cycling in the City workshops

Council no longer runs the more advanced Commuting Cycling workshops. We recommend anyone looking for cycling skill for riding on the road to check out the Cycling in the City workshops run by the City of Sydney at Sydney Park.
