Barracluff Park Upgrade

To ensure Waverley Council continues to provide quality recreational spaces for the local community, upgrade works were undertaken at Barracluff Park and Playground. The play area doubled in size with nature and wild play, an improved playground, small multi-use court and tennis wall.

The upgrade, completed in September 2021, included:

  • New multi play equipment
  • New nature play
  • New furniture
  • New landscaping
  • Lighting upgrades
  • A new hard court, with the multisport surface being laid in February 2022.

Background

In 2018, Council engaged an external consultant to undertake an annual playground safety audits which highlighted issues with equipment pieces at Barracluff Park, which were beyond their serviceable life and required removal.  As such, Council fenced off and removed the equipment.

Since this time, Council engaged the community to have their say on what they would like to see in Barracluff park. Based on community feedback, Council worked with a play equipment designer to create multi-play equipment that is one-of-a-kind in Australia.  Guided by the Inclusive Play Space Study (find out more about the strategy here) Barracluff Park Playground is the first inclusive play space in Waverley.
