Eastgate Facade Project
Works to upgrade Eastgate Bondi Junction's Facade commenced in late July 2019. This project will replace the awning and improve the overall aesthetics by painting, tiling and cladding the exterior. This improvement will elevate Bondi Junction's popular Spring, Newland and Ebley Streets.
The project is due for completion by late 2019 (weather permitting). The Centre will remain opening during refurbishments, reassuring disruption to shoppers and retailers will be minimised.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the works and how long is the construction?
The Eastgate Façade Upgrade Project aims to improve the structure and overall aesthetics of the building and to invigorate the local streetscape. The initial stage will include constructing scaffolding so that the external tiles can be removed and the awning can be replaced. Work commenced on 29 July and is due to be completed at the end of 2019, weather permitted. Some night works may be approved during the initial stages to ensure the safety of pedestrians.
Was the community consulted?
The plans were on notification from 23 October to 13 November 2018 and submissions were invited as part of DA-365/2018.
How will this affect access to the Shopping Centre and Car Park?
The Shopping Centre, Car Park and Waverley Council Customer Service Centre will remain open for their regular hours of operation during refurbishments, with minimal disruption to shoppers, retailers and motorists.
How will this impact traffic and parking in the vicinity?
There is not expected to be any impact to parking or traffic flow on Spring Street, Ebley Street and surrounding roads. Pedestrians may be redirected from some parts of the footpath, with Traffic Controllers ensuring safe passage.
How is the project being funded?
The project is jointly funded by the Eastgate Shopping Centre and Waverley Council.
How can residents get more information on the current works?
See all documentation on DA Tracker on the Council website for DA-364/2018.
How can the public register feedback or obtain more information about the project?
Contact Waverley Council on 9083 8000 or at info@waverley.nsw.gov.au or log your query via our web form here.
