Community sharps disposal
Community sharps are needles and syringes that are generated by community members through self-administered healthcare or injecting drug use.
Community sharps should not be placed in waste or recycling bins as they can cause injury to workers or members of the public. If you or a family member uses needles, syringes or lancets for health reasons, you can safely dispose of them easily at participating chemists and pharmacies in Waverley in one of the following:
- sharps container
- sturdy plastic, puncture-resistant container (not glass)
- container suggested by your chemist.
No loose needles, syringes or lancets will be accepted.

Are you a pharmacy interested in offering a community sharp disposal?
Council employs a sharps waste contractor to supply and service a community sharps container at pharmacies, where it is kept in a secure location for customer use. This program is free for pharmacies but exclusively for their customers.
Note: our program has reached capacity so we cannot accept any new pharmacies for now.
