Bronte Beach

The Bronte Beach Precinct is bounded by Bronte Gully, the Pacific Ocean, Boundary St and Albion St, Macpherson St and Bronte Rd. Please note boundary lines run through the middle of the street. Bronte Beach Precinct is part of Lawson Ward.

Bronte is named after an early property in the area, which was named after a town in Sicily. It was originally known as Nelson Bay.

Settlement of the area dates from the 1830s, when the first land grants were made. Population was minimal until the late 1800s, with growth from the 1880s into the early 1900s. Expansion continued during the immediate post-war years. The population declined slightly from the mid 1990s.

Major features of the area include Bronte Park, Bronte Beach, the Bondi to Bronte Coast Walk, Bronte Baths, Bronte House, Waverley Cemetery and a number of schools.
