Nomination, eligibility and guidelines

Nominations are now open for the 2026 Mark & Evette Moran Nib Literary Award.

Eight prizes are offered in total:

  • 1 x Mark & Evette Moran Nib Literary Award – $40,000
  • 6 x Alex Buzo Shortlist Prize – $1,500 each
  • 1 x People’s Choice Prize – $4,000

Literary works of any genre that are newly published (between 1 July of the previous year and 30 June of the current year) may be eligible for consideration. Submitted books are judged on literary merit, quality research, readability and value to the community. Nominations must be the original work of no more than two joint Australian authors and must be submitted in English.
Nominations close 15 June 2026.

A special early bird fee of $55 per entry applies to nominations submitted in full by 30 April 2026.
The regular nomination fee of $66 applies from 1 May 2026.
Price include GST. Additional transaction fees applicable.
