Direct debit


If you are applying to pay the rates instalments by direct debit, after 11 am on 30th November 2023, this payment facility will commence for you on 28th February 2024 with the Third Quarterly Rate Instalment 2023/24. A Credit Card Service fee of 0.8% is applicable to payments made by card. This fee is charged at the time of payment.


  1. Notification that payment is due
    Where the amount of payment is due from bill to bill Waverley Council will always provide you with a bill at least ten (10) business days (or such time as agreed with you) before payment is due. On the due date, the amount will be debited from the account you have nominated.
  2. Direct debit guarantee
    If you dispute any amount on a bill or on a notification of payments due under a pre-agreed arrangement, and provide written notification at least three (3) business days before the payment is due, Waverley Council will guarantee not to debit your account for the amount in dispute until the matter is resolved. This period of notice will allow Waverley Council the time to resolve the matter or to discontinue the processing of the payment.
  3. Terminate payment method
    You may terminate the direct debit agreement if written notification is received at least three (3) business days before the payment is due.
  4. Privacy
    Waverley Council will maintain strict control over the information that has been provided to Council. Waverley Council will only act on your written instructions or those of an authorised representative.
  5. Complaints
    Waverley Council will provide you with contact details for lodging complaints when the direct debit is established, and these details will be repeated on issue of the bills. Complaints must be made in writing and directed to the General Manager, Waverley Council, PO Box 9, Bondi Junction NSW 1355 or via email at info@waverley.nsw.gov.au. The General Manager of Waverley Council will respond to any compliant with with in five (5) business days.
  6. Range of Accounts
    Direct debit is not available on all accounts and if you have any doubts if your account is suitable, please contact your financial institution or credit card provider.
  7. Sufficient Funds
    You must ensure that you have sufficient clear funds available in the relevant credit card by the due date to permit the payment of the direct debit.
  8. Due Date
    When the due date for payment falls on a day, which is not a business day, it is taken to be due on the first available business day when Waverley Council is available for the undertaking of financial transactions by staff.   9. Direct Debit transaction dishonoured
    When a direct debit is not settled due to, insufficient funds or the credit card being closed by the financial institution or credit card provider Waverley Council will charge any bank fees incurred and an administration charge in accordance with Council’s adopted Revenue Policy.
  10. Incorrect or wrongful debit
    If a claim is made relating to an alleged incorrect or wrongful debit to a credit card account information will be provided by Waverley Council to the financial institution without meeting the requirements of clause 4 (Privacy).
