Hiring a venue or open space in Waverley
Planning an event or activity and looking for the perfect indoor venue or outdoor space?
Read on to learn about permits needed for outdoor events and activities, find out about support offered to not-for-profit organisations, and browse useful resources and contacts at Council.
Outdoor space management
Depending on the nature of your planned activity, approval from Council may be required in the form of a permit. Approval is needed for events with 100+ people, such as a festival or street parade, or events which require equipment to be brought in (e.g. chairs, PA system, jumping castle, marquee). A permit is also required for corporate team events and commercial activities like fitness training and product sampling.
If the invited guests do not exceed 99 people and you are not bringing in any equipment, you are still required to complete an application form for a permit, however there is no fee.
A permit is not required for activities like wedding photos, family picnics, events without equipment and casual sport with less than five people.
When using Waverley’s parks, beaches and open spaces, please ensure that your group complies with the open space usage conditions.
Indoor venue hire
You do not need a permit to host an event or activity at an indoor venue, however you do need to make a booking. Please note that we require 7 days’ notice to make a booking at any of Council's unstaffed community venues.
Please check each indoor venue for details including room specifications, virtual tours and fees and charges.
Venue Hire Grant Program
Waverley Council supports not-for-profit organisations that provide identifiable social, recreational and cultural benefits to Waverley’s community by offering grants for subsidised use of Council’s indoor and outdoor venues. Find out more about the Venue Hire Grant Program.
