Power to the Future Program

Why this project?

Increasing concentrations of greenhouse gas emissions are driving global heating, which is affecting the Eastern Beaches through increasing temperatures, extended dry periods and more intense and frequent storms. We know climate change is a significant and urgent youth issue. The Climate Strikes of 2019 saw thousands of students protest the adverse impacts they face, that without voting rights, they are powerless to prevent. The Power to the Future program is a project for local students to translate ideas, new knowledge, skills, and energy to influence change and undertake tangible and effective climate actions.

How will we do it?

The project uses an intergenerational exchange approach to empower youth in partnership with seniors, council staff and community partners, to influence decision makers with locally identified climate solutions. Participants will use their voice, bring their ideas to the table, challenge themselves, meet and work with people from different ages (including seniors 60+) and put their skills into practice to create a climate change program and campaign to be rolled out to the Waverley community.

Who can get involved?

We are looking for young champions aged between 10 and 18 years old and seniors aged 60+ seniors who are keen to make a difference in the local Climate change space and help create a climate change program and campaign to be rolled out to the Waverley Community.
