Building Futures is a free Council program to help large buildings (20+ residential or commercial lots) to save money on their energy and water bills and improve environmental performance. Participating buildings work towards reducing common area energy use by a minimum of 20%, reducing operating costs and greenhouse emissions.

Successful applicants receive:

  • Energy assessments of common areas, costed recommendations and implementation support
  • Up to $1000 matched funding towards one or more implemented efficiency upgrades
  • A rooftop solar assessment
  • Assessment of water consumption through Sydney Water’s WaterFix program
  • Access to Waverley Council’s apartment recycling resources

Eligibility criteria:

To be eligible for Building Futures, buildings must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Strata titled or deposited plan (residential or non-residential)
  • 20+ apartments or commercial lots
  • Located in the Waverley Local Government Area
  • Have an enclosed or underground carpark

Note: Buildings with more complex energy demands will be preferenced for Building Futures. Buildings. Buildings with simpler energy profiles will be referred to our upcoming Electrify the East program.

Applicants are required to:

  • Have an active Strata Committee that can approve and implement recommended energy saving measures and has the financial capacity to do so.
  • Provide written approval to Council from the Strata to participate, allowing access to electricity and water data and permission to participate in a case study, which will be published on Council's website.
  • Nominate a key contact person to liaise with regarding on-site access, building information and implementation solutions.
