Energy Smart Business Grants

Energy Smart Business Grants assist small businesses (with less than 40 employees) in Waverley to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions through electrification and energy efficiency upgrades. This program is designed to contribute to Council’s target of Net Zero community emissions by 2035, outlined in the Environmental Action Plan (EAP) and Community Strategic Plan (CSP).
How to apply
- Before submitting your application, please ensure that you have read the Energy Smart Business Grants Guidelines.
- Ensure that you have the following documents ready to attach to your application: a recent quote for the intended upgrade (<6 months), which outlines make and model of appliance and warranty period; proof of ownership or two-year lease agreement with landlord approval; and a recent electricity and gas bill.
- Apply via our online application form.
- A Council committee will review your application within two weeks. If it meets the eligibility criteria, Council will provide confirmation of a pre-approved grant amount and advise the next steps.
How much money is available?
Grants are being provided for 60% of the project cost (up to a maximum of $3,000) for eligible electrification or energy efficiency projects until 1 November, 2026 or until the available funds are expended.
Eligibility
- You must be a registered business operating in a physical location in the Waverley Local Government Area, with less than 40 employees.
- You must have written approval from the landlord or property owner, be in a lease agreement of more than two years, at a site that is not subject to a demolition clause.
- Your proposed project must replace gas appliances and/or deliver an efficiency improvement of 30% or more.
- Proposed products and installation must have a with a minimum two-year warranty.
- All project work must be undertaken by a licensed electrician.
Eligible products include: electric stovetops (induction or ceramic), efficient ovens, efficient hot water systems (including heat pump, solar boosted electric, electric resistance), reverse cycle air conditioning, condenser heat pump clothes dryers, efficient refrigeration and solar panels.
Non-eligible products include: battery storage, EV chargers and lighting.
