Help us celebrate the reopening tomorrow of Onslow Street Reserve
19 August 2022 | Media Release
Friday 19 August
Waverley Council invites the community to join us tomorrow, Saturday 20 August at 9am for the reopening of Onslow Street Reserve, Rose Bay.
The pocket playground has been upgraded to meet the communities needs and ensure it is fit for purpose and meet the latest Australian Standards.
The upgrade aligns with Waverley’s Play Space Strategy 2014-2029 which outlines the essential role of play for the development of toddlers, children and young people.
The playground upgrade includes:
- A small play tower, swings, rubber soft fall, custom tunnel and nature play elements.
- A new steel garden fence along the park frontage;
- Relocated and refurbished picnic setting and seat;
- An additional park bench and bin enclosure;
- New park signage;
- New screening vegetation along the boundaries to provide privacy for neighbouring properties
- New landscape improvements including new gardenbeds and turf; and
- A new connecting path to the playground and picnic setting to ensure everyone can access and enjoy the park.
Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos said feedback received from the community in March 2021 helped inform the design of the upgrade which was fully funded by the Council.
“Our community reopening is an opportunity for Council to thank our residents and park users for participating in our consultation and for their patience during a difficult time as we battled the combined challenges of COVID-19 and terrible wet weather,” Mayor Masselos said.
“Onslow Street Reserve is a much-loved neighbourhood play space and we hope that our young people enjoy the exploratory and nature play spaces that we have created.
“It is fundamental that play is considered in planning and design processes, not only for play spaces, but open spaces, streets and urban development.
“We also made sure that we reached as many people as possible during our consultation which included but was not limited to an online survey, an in-person Have Your Say day, flyer drops, advertising, e-newsletters and social media.”
The reopening will be held from 9am to 10.30am on Saturday 20 August and refreshments will be available. There will also be free face painting!
