- Have Your Say about our draft street performance policy
Have Your Say about our draft street performance policy
20 October 2022 | Media Release
20 October 2022
Waverley Council is inviting the community to have its say about our draft Street Performance Policy and Guidelines.
The draft policy responds to the Council and Waverley community’s desire to showcase and support our creative sector in our vibrant network of spaces and places for arts and culture participation, production and experience.
It aims to support a greater variety of street performers in more locations across Waverley including Roscoe Street mall, Bondi Beach and Bondi Road between Park Parade and Denham St.
The draft policy was informed by our Arts and Culture Plan 2021-2026 and the Bondi Junction Evening Culture and Entertainment Strategy 2018-2028.
Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, said the recent reopening of Bondi Pavilion has shone a spotlight on arts in culture in Waverley in 2022 and beyond, making it an opportune time to seek feedback from the community, local performers and the local businesses about the draft policy.
“We are inviting our community to share their feedback about the proposed changes to our current busking policy including the expansion of performance zones to include Bondi Junction, Bondi Beach (including Hall Street) and Bondi Road,” Mayor Masselos said.
“We are looking at increasing the duration of licenses to 12 months from six months and the number of licenses to 30 from seven, while reducing the performance duration to two hours a day, down from four.
“The trial will clearly explain to interested parties how the policy will impact public space and the consultation will help us understand the community’s opinions.
“Waverley Council is a passionate supporter of the local performing artists and the performance arts industry. Our draft Street Performance Policy and Trial is just one of the ways we are supporting the sector and our local businesses, and the community, by activating our public spaces with music and performance.”
Consultation is open until 31 December at haveyoursay.waverley.nsw.gov.au/streetperforming.
