- Vibrant vision progresses: Urban designer appointed for Bondi Junction Master Plan
Vibrant vision progresses: Urban designer appointed for Bondi Junction Master Plan
Waverley Council’s once-in-a-generation reshaping of the Bondi Junction town centre has reached a new milestone with the appointment of leading urban design and planning consultancy Architectus. The company will deliver the Bondi Junction Strategic Vision and Master Plan, the first in 20 years.
The landmark project will shape the future of one of Sydney’s most significant town centres, setting a clear long-term direction for land use, transport, public space, and community outcomes.
Mayor of Waverley, Will Nemesh, said, “The Master Plan is key to reimaging Bondi Junction as an activated and experiential precinct in the heart of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs that includes an expansion of residential accommodation, civic and cultural spaces as well as the nighttime economy.
“Bondi Junction will be positioned as a dynamic shopping, dining and entertainment district underpinning its status as a global international destination.
“We are thrilled to be working with Architectus on this exciting project. Their expertise, collaborative ethos, and clear understanding of our community’s aspirations make them the right partner to guide this work. We look forward to delivering a bold, inclusive and sustainable vision for Bondi Junction.”
Following a competitive procurement process, Architectus was selected for their strong multidisciplinary team, community-first approach, and deep experience in complex urban transformation projects.
The project will be delivered in stages, beginning with a strong focus on community and industry consultation to better understand the current and future needs of residents, businesses and visitors. The Master Plan will ensure Bondi Junction continues to thrive as an energetic, accessible and resilient centre for decades to come.
Council will provide regular updates as the project progresses, with formal community consultation to commence later this year.
