Petitions

A petition is a formal request from more than one person for Council to take action or not take action on a particular matter. Petitions are one of the ways in which the community can collectively share its views, ideas and concerns with Council.

Council accepts petitions from anyone who has an interest in the Waverley Local Government Area as a resident, landowner, business or in some other capacity.

Petitions must concern matters that Council is authorised to determine.

How to lodge a petition

Please review the Petitions Policy before starting a petition. The policy contains important information about the process, including lodgement requirements.

To ensure your petition complies, we recommend using Council’s Petition Lodgement Form and Petition Template. However, these aren’t mandatory.

Petitions lodged with Council that comply with the Policy will generally be reported at the next available Council or Council Committee meeting for consideration.
