- Operator sought for Bondi Pavilion Pottery Studio
Operator sought for Bondi Pavilion Pottery Studio
10 March 2022 | Media Release
10 March 2022
Waverley Council is inviting community-based organisations to apply to operate Bondi Pavilion’s upgraded pottery studio when the iconic heritage building reopens later this year.
Council proposes to grant a licence of three years with an option for a further two years for the operation of the studio, to be determined by an open selection process.
Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, said the Council is seeking an operator that can demonstrate it is able to run the studio for the benefit of the community.
“Pottery classes have been held at Bondi Pavilion for several decades and our wonderful new studio will help even more local artists and members of the community continue that legacy,” Mayor Masselos said.
“Council is restoring the Pavilion as a thriving community and cultural hub of the future and our new pottery studio aims to add to this success and further demonstrating Council's commitment to supporting the arts in Waverley
“We are very proud to be giving the Pavilion a new lease of life so that it can continue to serve as a meeting place and a place of artistic expression and cultural learning with a strong focus on sustainability.”
The larger upgraded studio includes a second kiln and new wheels and equipment.
Submissions for the licence close 1 April. For more information, click here. Details of the open selection process will be released later in March.
The Council’s restoration of Bondi Pavilion also includes:
- An updated art gallery
- flexible cultural spaces including the new ‘Bondi Story Room’
- two dining venues (a restaurant and a café)
- new toilets, showers and a family and accessible bathroom and change space
- expansive refurbishments and upgrade to all the Pavilion’s unique existing rooms
- landscaped internal courtyard spaces
- new grand entrance to the north and creating additional east-west connections through the Pavilion
- better connection from Campbell Parade to the beachfront
