Councillor Paula Masselos and Councillor Elaine Keenan re-elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor
11 January 2022 | Media Release
11 January 2022
Councillor Paula Masselos and Councillor Elaine Keenan, both of Lawson Ward, were last night re-elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Waverley.
Mayor Masselos will hold office until 19 September 2023 and will be joined on Council by Hunter Ward Councillors Steven Lewis, Sally Betts and Will Nemesh; fellow Lawson Ward Councillor Angela Burrill, Bondi Ward Councillors Michelle Gray, Dominic Wy Kanak and Leon Goltsman, and Waverley Ward Councillors Tim Murray ,Ludovico Fabiano, and Tony Kay.
Mayor Masselos was first elected Mayor of Waverley in September 2019 and remained in the position until Council entered caretaker period ahead of the NSW Local Government Elections on 4 December 2021.
Mayor Masselos said she continues to look forward to representing the Waverley community during these unprecedented times and working alongside our dedicated Council officers and community groups and leaders to help make Waverley an even better place to live, work, visit and do business.
“In spite of the pandemic and the new challenges we now face because of Omincron, and the that this term of council is only two years and eight months instead of the usual four years, Council is delivering the biggest capital works program in Waverley’s history. This includes the restoration of the iconic Bondi Pavilion and the Boot Factory building, and much-needed upgrades to our local villages, parks and playgrounds area – all with a balanced budget,” Mayor Masselos said.
“We are committed to supporting our community and our local economy, and protecting our environment and neighbourhoods, so we will working very hard and fast to ensure that we can deliver as much as possible during our truncated term for the benefit of Waverley.
“We have so much to be proud of and excited about including the restoration of Bondi Pavilion and the Boot Factory building, our path to net zero carbon emissions, the Bondi Memorial Project, the COVID-safe management of outdoor public spaces and our commitment to supporting local infrastructure.”
Last night’s Mayoral election was live-streamed via the internet and an audio-visual recording of the meeting will be publicly available on Council’s website in the coming days. To find out more about meetings, click here.
