Registering your pool

As of 29 October 2013, all pool owners in New South Wales are required to register their swimming pools on a state-wide register. There are two ways you can register your swimming pool:

If you did not register your pool before the 29 October 2013 deadline, you may receive a penalty fine of $220.

The register is one outcome of the NSW Government’s review of the Swimming Pools Act 1992, which saw a series of amendments to the Act aimed at improving the safety of children under the age of five years around swimming pools. For more information, please view the frequently asked questions.

Request an inspection

As per the Swimming Pools Act 1992, the owner of any premises can request an inspection for a swimming pool on their premises. This means that Council will send an officer out to inspect the pool barrier prior to the lease or sale of the property and if the barrier complies with the requirements of the legislation, issue a Certificate of Compliance.

Exemptions

As per Section 22 of the Swimming Pools Act 1992, the owner of any premises with a swimming pool may apply to Council for a Certificate of Exemption where pool barriers are deemed impractical or unreasonable.
