Waverley Council invites local high school students to attend our first Future Waverley Youth Summit on Wednesday 13 October from 3.30pm-5pm via Zoom.

The Youth Summit gives teens the opportunity to discuss their priorities and aspirations for the future of the Waverley area with Council representatives.

Feedback provided by participants will help inform Council’s new 10-year Community Strategic Plan- our roadmap for the future. The plan addresses a broad range of issues that are relevant to the whole community, including our youth.

Mayor Masselos said no-one has a better idea of what’s happening for youth in Waverley than young people themselves.

“Council wants to ensure our young people have an opportunity to participate in future city planning and to share their ideas. Their voice is important, and it is one we need to hear,” Mayor Masselos said.

“We want to hear from young people about what they have to say about how we can help make Waverley an even better place for young people and children to live, work or study in.”

The Summit is aimed at 12-17 year-olds but high school students of any age can attend. Students will receive a $20 gift voucher for sharing their ideas. Students may also wish to present an idea or initiative they can pitch to Council representatives on the day.

People aged 10-19 make up 8% of Waverley’s population. Waverley is home to 17 primary and secondary schools and is one of the most densely populated local government areas in Australia (population 72,106 covering 9.2sq/km).
