Message from the Mayor

01 September 2021

Wednesday 1 September

As lockdown continues, I would like to encourage the Waverley community to continue to follow all current Public Health Orders (PHOs), continue to get tested and vaccinated, wear masks and practice social distancing. The PHOs require masks to be worn indoors and outdoors, although if you are exercising, you do not need to wear a mask unless you pass someone.

This will help us continue to reduce our number of active cases. We must remain vigilant.

Help stop the spread: Mayor Masselos (pictured), and Council's compliance staff, encourage people to follow all restrictions in place.

At last count, the number of active cases in Waverley were 28, down from 83, although this number has increased slowly from 25. Vaccination is a key tool in helping reduce numbers.

Currently, all NSW residents over the age of 18 are eligible to receive a vaccine, so I encourage people to book their appointment. NSW Health vaccination clinics and participating GPs and pharmacies are open for COVID-19 vaccination bookings.

COVID-19 vaccines are free for everyone in Australia regardless of Medicare or visa status. For more information, visit nsw.gov.au. Bookings will also be able in the coming weeks for children aged 12 and up.

Waverley Council is also in the process of finalising its plan for managing its outdoor public spaces over summer, including our beaches, so keep a look out for announcements shortly.

We are working closely with Police, NSW Health and TfNSW in the development of our plans. Waverley Council is also liaising with Woollahra, Randwick and Bayside Councils to have a coordinated approach where appropriate as this is key to keeping people safe.

The measures outlined in the plan will be delivered in line with the current Public Health Orders (PHOs) and health advice. The plan is designed to be flexible and subject to change as PHOs, health advice and circumstances and conditions change. Look out for updates on our summer COVID plans at waverley.nsw.gov.au or subscribe to our Waverley Weekly e-newsletter.

In the meantime, we encourage residents to continue to use our outdoor public spaces in line with the current PHOs and to continue to get tested and vaccinated, wear masks and practice social distancing. Together our collective efforts will make a difference.

Paula Masselos,

Mayor of Waverley
