- A safe and inclusive workplace for all
A safe and inclusive workplace for all
25 March 2021
25 March 2021
Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, moved a Mayoral motion at the March meeting of Council reaffirming Council’s commitment to being a safe and inclusive workplace for all staff.
“In these modern times, it is shocking to observe that women’s safety is still not assured, as is now being witnessed in Federal Parliament and in other workplaces around Australia. I salute the courage of our young women- women such as Brittany Higgins and Chanel Contos - who have refused to be silenced and continue to keep women’s safety at the top of Australians’ consciousness ,” Mayor Masselos said.
“At Waverley, there is no place for harassment or bullying, and our Council has a number of policies and procedures in place to ensure our staff is supported.
“These include family violence support and diversity and inclusion support policies, and Code of Conduct standards relating to discrimination and harassment, bullying and work health and safety.
“Nevertheless, as a united and community-driven organisation, we must continue to strive for safety in the workplace and will conduct an internal review of our current reporting structures to ensure that all staff feel safe reporting sexual assault and discrimination at work.
“On average, one woman a week is murdered by her current or former partners and one in three women over the age of 15 has experienced some sort of physical violence. As a woman, and as Mayor of an inclusive and diverse community, I say enough is enough."
