- Net Zero Month of Action empowers our community to reach 2035 target
Net Zero Month of Action empowers our community to reach 2035 target
05 March 2024
Waverley Council has embarked on a Net Zero Month of Action to inspire and empower the community towards achieving our target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035.
During the month of March, Waverley Council, in collaboration with neighbouring Councils and Member for Wentworth, Allegra Spender, is providing education, tools and support to help everyone take action to reduce emissions and save money.
There will be a variety of events, workshops and webinars designed to empower residents, businesses and organisations to take meaningful steps towards saving energy and creating a more sustainable and resilient community. Three lucky people will win a month’s worth of free EV charging through our fun photo competition.
Waverley Council launched its Net Zero Alliance in August 2023 to assist the Council to achieve its community net zero target in partnership with founding members Sydney Roosters, Waverley College, St Catherine’s School, Sydney and the Bondi & Districts Chamber of Commerce.
These partners work with the Council and, as a network, to help make sustainability second nature within their own organisations to the benefit of the Waverley community and Sydney’s east at large.
Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, said achieving net zero is more easily achieved when there are opportunities to work together and share ideas and resources. Council has its own target of net zero emissions by 2030 for the organisation.
“Impacts of climate change will only worsen if more isn’t done to reduce emissions through solar power, electrification of our homes, active transport and energy efficiency,” Mayor Masselos said.
“Our Council is working hard to provide the programs, education and rebates to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, so I encourage everyone to participate in our Net Zero Month of Action and sign-up to our Net Zero Alliance.”
A key event highlight of the Net Zero Month of Action is the Waverley Net Zero Alliance business breakfast on Friday 15 March at Bondi Pavilion from 7.45am to 9am. Speakers include Alexi Boyd from Energy Consumers Australia, Emmanuel Constantinou, President, Bondi and District Chamber of Commerce and Mayor Masselos.
