Waverley Council plans to increase the number of dog litter bag dispensers in the area to help tackle the problem of dog waste in public places.

Council voted in August to audit all high pedestrian locations where dog owners and their pets congregate to help determine where the new dispensers are needed.

There are more than 10,000 registered dogs in the Waverley local government area which has a population of 68,605 residents.

Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, said having access to litter bags in more places is just one of the ways the Council is helping protect the environment and help keep our streets clean.

“Council provides litter bags at each of our dogs off-leash parks, but this audit will see the number of locations increase by the end of the year,” Mayor Masselos said.

“In the meantime, we encourage dog owners to always carry litter bags when they are exercising their animals and take responsibility for their animals.”

Please help us keep our parks, coastlines, walkways and streets clean and enjoyable spaces for everyone in the community by doing the right thing by picking up and appropriately disposing of your dogs’ droppings in public bins provided.

Remember fines will apply for not picking up and disposing of your dog waste in accordance with Section 20 of the Companion Animals Act 1998.
