Charing Cross Streetscape Upgrade enters its next phase

Waverley Council is inviting the community to provide feedback about the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for the Charing Cross Streetscape Upgrade project.

The REF is open for public feedback until 29 November 2023 at haveyoursay.waverley.nsw.gov.au. Alternatively, you can send feedback to majorprojects@waverley.nsw.gov.au.

It summarises the assessment of the potential environmental impacts of the proposed upgrade which aims to improve the Charing Cross business district’s economic and social vibrancy and make it safer, more accessible and sustainable.

Highlights of the project include:

“Our design for the upgrade will make this terrace-lined village centre even more beautiful while employing sustainability measures that will bring it into the 21st century,” Mayor Masselos said.

“We’ll also be planting a significant number of appropriate tree varieties and size in the village centre and installing bioretention tree pits which help treat stormwater run-off.

“Most importantly, we are continuing to work closely with Charing Cross residents and businesses to keep them informed about the project and its milestones.”

Once the REF is evaluated, a contractor will be appointed to undertake preliminary electrical works early next year, including undergrounding of power lines.

The proposal site is located within the village centre, along a section of Bronte Road between Church Street and its intersection with Albion Street. It is centered around the six-way intersection of Bronte Road, Carrington Road and Victoria Street, and also includes a section of Victoria Street and Carrington Road, near the intersection with Bronte Road.
