As Garage Sale Trail heads into its tenth year, this grassroots event that started in Bondi is set to be the best one yet across Australia! Taking place on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November, more than 400,000 people are expected to participate across 16,000 garage sales nationally. Powered by more than 115 councils around the country, including Waverley Council, Garage Sale Trail is dedicated to helping Australians learn about the importance of reuse to reduce unnecessary waste.

In 2020, the event will be available online for the first time as well as in-person through physical garage sales. For those looking to participate online, sellers will be hosting sales via Facebook or Instagram, making it easy to find a bargain from the comfort of your own home. For those that prefer to haggle face-to-face, the event will still be delivered as usual in person with COVID safety measures and guidelines in place.

To find out what sales are happening in Waverley or nationally online, or to register your own sale for free, visit the Garage Sale Trail website. If you're planning on hosting a physical sale, please be sure to read these tips on how to keep your sale COVID safe.

“With thousands of garage sales happening all across the country there are sure to be some wonderful items available on this year’s Garage Sale Trail. From incredible jewellery, rare collectables and antiques, almost brand-new toys and games, to one-off clothing pieces and high-end accessories, Garage Sale Trail could be your one stop shop for all your Christmas gifts this year! And with the option to shop virtually you needn’t even leave the house if you don’t want to!” says co-founder Andrew Valder.

Aside from being a fantastic opportunity to stock the Christmas tree with second-hand treasures, Garage Sale Trail also reduces a tonne of waste. It is predicted that over 2 million items are to be listed and diverted from landfill this year, making Garage Sale Trail a win for your wallet and for the planet too.
