Following the Council of Australian Governments meeting, and the Prime Ministers resulting statement effectively banning mass non-essential public gatherings of more than 500 people across Australia, Waverley Council and Bondi Association of Arts and Music have today made the difficult decision to postpone indefinitely this Sunday’s Bondi Beach Latin American Festival at the Bondi Pavilion.

The current health situation around COVID-19 is changing and evolving very quickly and we have a social responsibility to reduce the spread of coronavirus in our community. Public health and safety remains a high priority for this long running and much-loved event. We understand some people may be disappointed with this decision and we apologise for any inconvenience. We hope you can understand the reasons for our decision, and appreciate as always the support up until this point.

Pre-purchased tickets will be refunded back to the original payment mechanism through our ticketing partner Humanitix.

We remain committed to supporting this vibrant annual celebration of latin american food, music, dance, and look forward to re-establishing the event at a future time.

The Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos said she commended the event organisers for taking these reasonable, precautionary measures one day earlier than imposed by the Government.

“Whilst the Australian Government announcement this afternoon comes into effect on Monday, I am grateful event organisers have put public health first in the joint decision to postpone this year’s festival on Sunday.”

We will continue to be guided by the advice of the NSW and Australian Governments in relation to Coronavirus,” said Mayor Masselos.

“I look forward to seeing the Latin American Festival back in 2021, bigger and better than ever.”

Festival director Christopher Rosario agrees “us Latino’s are by nature extremely resilient as well as fiesta maestro’s – in our past we’ve had hurricanes, floods, volcano’s, conquistadors, disease, and even the occasional world cup defeat to the Socceroos! We’ll be back bigger, better, and brighter, and we thank our partners Waverley Council and our patrons for their support and understanding through these current difficult times, and thank the Government Health departments for their guidance”.
