Applications for Waverley Council’s small grants program now open

If you have a great idea that would benefit the local community or environment but need some help to get your idea off the ground, Council’s small grants program might be an option for you.
With Council recently endorsing an increase in the amount of funding available to applicants, there’s never been a better time to apply for grants of up to $5,000.
Bondi Beach Pound Paws Dog Day (pictured above) is one community event that received funding from Council's small grants program.
Grants are available in three streams:
- Community and cultural grants: Individuals, community groups and services, sole traders and local businesses can apply with proposals that deliver identifiable social, cultural and recreational benefits to the Waverley community.
- Environmental grants: Schools, child care centres, incorporated community groups and local micro businesses can apply with proposals that contribute to a sustainable local community and environment.
- Creative streets grants: Individuals, community groups, precinct groups, schools and local businesses can apply with proposals that contribute to improving Waverley's streetscapes.
Over the years, Council’s small grants program has supported a wide variety of projects. In the last twelve months alone, some projects we’ve helped fund include:
- Flickerfest 2020: Bondi’s international short film festival
- Pound Paws Dog Day: An awareness-raising event and celebration of pet adoption
- Concrete Jungle: A photographic exhibition documenting the moments in history of a significant local building, Glenview Court in Tamarama
- New house emblems for Rose Bay Secondary College: An acknowledgement of Waverley’s Indigenous history and culture
- Program trial at Bondi Bathers Surf Lifesaving Club: A program to include children with autism in the surf club’s Sunday Nippers training
- Wicking beds at Bondi Beach Public School: A water-saving initiative to establish wicking beds the school’s garden
Council allocates funds of approximately $100,000 each financial year for small grants. These funds give community members the opportunity to take the lead on addressing issues and creating outcomes that are important to them.
Applications close on Monday April 6. To find out more and to apply, visit our small grants program page.
