Upcoming motion on the Bondi Pavilion upgrade

04 October 2017

MEDIA RELEASE

At the Waverley Council Extraordinary meeting last night, a motion was passed to mark the next chapter of the Bondi Pavilion Upgrade and Conservation project.

Mayor Wakefield lodged a full motion to inform the public that Council would debate a motion with regard to the project, at the next full Council Meeting on Tuesday 10 October.

Mayor Wakefield said the biggest issue facing Council is Bondi Pavilion and promised a new approach.

“Our desire is to be open, transparent and have an informed governance approach. This motion is vital to have the community involved in the process and provide vital input.

“We need to review the current plans and prepare for a refurbishment to create a world standard community and cultural centre.

“A deferral like this has never been done before. I think its good timing and essential because the community will be involved in the whole process.

“This is a new chapter for Waverley and I’m looking forward to working with the community to get this project on track.” Mayor Wakefield said.

Deputy Mayor Dominic Wy Kanak strongly encouraged people to come to the Bondi Beach Precinct Meeting which will be held on Monday 9 October from 7.30pm at the Pavilion.

“This meeting will be the first chance for the community to hear our approach and provide feedback.

“Council hopes to prepare new plans and amend the development application once the matter is resolved at the next council meeting.

“We hope to rebuild the community’s trust by providing an open and consultative approach. This is our first step towards that,” said Deputy Mayor Wy Kanak.
