Lifeguard Challenge – Waverley Vs Sutherland Shire Raising Money for Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation
24 January 2018
MEDIA RELEASE
Lifeguards from Sutherland Shire and Waverley Councils are joining forces on 11 February 2018 to get on board (literally!) and help raise funds for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation (SCHF) in purchasing additional lifesaving equipment for sick kids.
The Lifeguards will individually and as teams, put themselves through a gruelling 30 kilometre challenge where they will be rescue board paddling, soft sand running, swimming and road running from Bondi Beach to Cronulla Beach in a battle of the beaches and a battle of the fittest.
The ultimate aim, in the lead up to the challenge and on the day, is to raise much needed funds to help doctors and nurses tackle some of the most significant health issues facing children today.
“We couldn’t think of a more valuable charity to support. I’m really proud of our lifeguards for raising money to help the Sydney Children’s Hospital.” Mayor John Wakefield said.
“Our Lifeguards not only save the lives of people on the beach, but are doing what they can to help raise money for lifesaving equipment for sick kids.
“I am biased and have to say our lifeguards are going to give the Sutherland Lifeguards a run for their money,” he said.
The challenge is set to take off from Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach just after 6am on Sunday 11 February, with the proposed course is as follows:
- Bondi Beach – Bronte Beach: Board Paddle 2km
- Bronte Beach – Coogee Beach: Run 3.5km
- Coogee Beach – Maroubra Beach: Board Paddle 4km
- Maroubra Beach – Frenchman’s Beach: Run 6km
- Frenchmans Beach – Kurnell Beach: Board Paddle 2km
- Kurnell Beach – Boat Harbour: Run 4km
- Boat Harbour – North Cronulla: Sand Run 5km
- North Cronulla – Cronulla: Swim .5km
On the day, people can come and watch from vantage points as the lifeguards put themselves to the test and at certain running points on the course, lifeguards will be carrying donation tins for onlookers to donate. To make a donation, visit Sydney’s Children’s Hospital Lifeguard Challenge.
