MEDIA RELEASE

Quality research and reliable reporting is on the agenda as the Mark and Evette Moran Nib Literary Award and the Walkley Foundation bring together an expert panel of journalists to discuss the increasingly pertinent topic of fake news on 11 October.

The discussion will be led by journalist Jan Fran who hosts The Feed on SBS and will feature a diverse group of journalists from across all media platforms including John Barron (host of The Drum and Planet America on ABC TV), Sandra Sully (Senior Editor and host of TEN Eyewitness News) and Alex McKinnon (Editor of Schwartz Media's The Briefing).

The group will examine the increasing need for reliable news, explore the trend for content creation over investigative journalism and discuss just how we can avoid the onslaught of fraudulent facts, hoax headlines and malicious media.

Waverley Council Mayor John Wakefield said this is an interesting event open to everyone to attend.

”With a long tradition of rewarding excellence in research and quality writing, the Mark and Evette Moran Nib Literary Award has found the perfect partner for collaboration in the Walkley Foundation.

“We are excited to have such a diverse range of professionals on the panel and I think we are in for a very interesting and entertaining evening.'

The event will be held in the Bondi Pavilion Theatre. For more information or to book free tickets visit eventbrite.com.au
