UPDATE: Bondi Beach closed for the remainder of today

Bondi Beach will remain closed for the remainder of today after the body of a whale calf washed ashore overnight at North Bondi.

The whale was deceased and has been removed from the beach.

Due to an increased risk of shark activity, the beach will remain closed for the remainder of today.

Bondi Beach temporarily closed

Bondi Beach is temporarily closed this morning to allow for the removal of the body of a whale calf which washed ashore overnight at North Bondi.

The calf is deceased and has significant injuries.

Waverley Council has removed the calf from the water, and has contacted National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia (ORRCA) to assist with appropriate removal.

Council staff have covered the calf to minimise any distress to the public.

Due to the increased risk of shark activity, the beach will remained closed during the next high tide, which is at 9.22am.
