- Bondi Beach Lifeguard Service Risk Review
Bondi Beach Lifeguard Service Risk Review
18 July 2018
Wednesday 18 July 2018
Mayor of Waverley, John Wakefield confirmed today that “there are no plans to ban surfing on Bondi Beach.”
Waverley Council annually conducts a review of its beach operations to ensure the safety and amenity of all beach users.
This year, we have included a survey for the wider community to provide feedback about a range of key topics including buffer zones, hard boards, and cycling and skateboarding along the Bondi Beach promenade, following a Council resolution in March 2018.
It is part of Council’s commitment to transparent consultation with the community on key issues.
See link to the survey here: https://www.haveyoursaywaverley.com.au/waverley-council-lifeguard-service-risk-review-2018
The independently conducted survey includes information about the advantages and disadvantages of each scenario presented to help respondents make an informed decision.
The survey is just one part of the Bondi Beach Lifeguard Service Risk Review, which considers a range of factors against a risk matrix. An external risk consultant, who is an expert in beach safety and looks at key risks associated with lifeguard operations, is conducting the review.
The survey is not a proposal to ban surfing at Bondi Beach as has been reported in the media today. At this stage, we are only seeking feedback and no decision has been made.
We encourage all beach users to complete the survey.
The survey will be available for 28 days of consultation, and was initially sent on Friday to key user groups including surf clubs, board-riders groups, surf training schools and local precincts.
All feedback will be compiled by the independent consultant and presented to Council for review.
