The spectacular views of Diamond Bay are now even more accessible and safer with the opening today of the refurbished walkway. The upgrade, including improved viewing areas and new coastal fencing, is sure to be a popular addition to the other coastal walkways in the area.

Walking the bay will be an enjoyable experience for all with seats and ample space in the lookout areas to rest and enjoy the expansive views. The comprehensive project has also included wider walkways, improved stairs, handrails and balustrades, and interpretive and safety signage at key locations.

Visitors will also be pleased to find that the main entry at Kimberley Street has been upgraded with a new footpath connection on Ray Street protected by a new vehicle safety barrier, new coastal fence and accessible lookout space to make the walk accessible to more people.

The project is jointly funded by the NSW Government in association with Waverley Council.

Waverley Mayor, Councillor Will Nemesh said the improvements are a great fit with the new Council’s focus on providing quality outdoor spaces for families to enjoy.

“This upgrade will help improve safety for the many visitors and residents who use the space while ensuring the new structures and materials can better withstand the harsh coastal conditions,” he said.

“We want a great look and feel for Waverley that we can all be proud of,” he said. “Waverley is a global tourist destination, so we must look our best for everyone to enjoy the natural beauty of the coast.”

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said the NSW Government has invested $2.993 million towards the Clifftop Walkway project.

“This iconic walkway is now even better with the opening of this new upgrade to make the walk more enjoyable and accessible,” Minister Scully said.

“The boardwalk has been upgraded between Dover Heights and Vaucluse with improved viewing platforms, signage and new seating areas to sit down and take in the panoramic ocean view.”

The work to upgrade the nearby Eastern Reserve Boardwalk is scheduled to be completed in early 2025 and will include new coastal fencing and staircases and a stormwater upgrade to protect the sensitive clifftop environment below.
