Bondi Pavilion ‘springs’ into action: seasonal theatre series in full swing
11 September 2023 | Media Release
11 September 2023
The revamped Bondi Pavilion is the heart of arts, culture and creativity in Bondi, and the theatre’s spring series has a vibrant program of performances lined up for the coming months.
Bondi Pavilion’s Artistic Director, Chris Bendall, says the recently restored theatre’s upcoming program of entertainment “invites people of all ages to come down and experience wonderful live performances that will delight, entertain and inspire”.
“The Pav’s reimagined theatre upstairs at the Pav is the home of live performance, theatre, film, and comedy in the eastern suburbs,’’ Mr Bendall said. “Since 1974 it’s been showcasing stimulating performances by homegrown and international artists, and last year’s restoration has brought new life to the space.
“We’ve been lucky enough to host many critically acclaimed artists this year, including Vika and Linda Bull, Paul Capsis, Reuben Kaye and The Listies. We’re celebrating innovation and creativity, and I can’t wait to introduce audiences to the sensational artists taking the stage this spring at the Pav.
This week, Jude Perl’s Greatest Hits: So Fresh 2023 (15 September) fills the space with musical comedy and hilarious award-winning song writing that makes for the most uplifting and brilliant night in the theatre.
Next week, An Evening with Ursula Yovich (22 September) will captivate and enthrall with her exquisite soul music and stories, in a deeply personal exploration of culture and connection.
For the spring school holidays, the theatre hosts:
- Children Are Stinky (23 September): Fresh from a sell-out, award-winning season at the Edinburgh Fringe, Circus Trick Tease bring their all-ages show that’s chock full of ridiculously fun acrobatics, clever choreography, and mischievous banter
- Junkyard Beats (5-6 October): The Box Show for ages 5 and up, is a feat of innovative and interactive drumming melded with physical comedy that will fill the Pavilion Theatre and Courtyards. Household items are magically transformed into extraordinary musical instruments - you’ll never look at a cardboard box in the same way again.
“There’s always something happening at the Pav. We’re inviting the community to come down and discover all that the theatre has to offer, with shows year-round from across the spectrum of performance, including music, film, theatre, talks and ideas, cabaret and comedy,” Mr Bendall said.
“We have community programs for young and old, free cultural festivals and so much more. There’s something for all ages, and I’m so very excited to see the Pav’s theatre coming alive as a cultural meeting point.”
The announcement of the Bondi Pavilion’s summer entertainment is coming soon. Tickets for all shows can be purchased online through bondipavilion.com.au.
