- Honour guard for the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
Honour guard for the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
22 September 2022 | Media Release
22 September 2022
Waverley Council is hosting an honour guard today of lifeguards, lifesavers and police at Bondi Beach in memory of the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on this national day of mourning, Thursday 22 September.
Please meet at around 10.40am at the Bondi Pavilion forecourt, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Bondi Beach.
There will a minutes' silence at 11am, followed by a guard of honour with lifeguards, lifesavers and police.
The event will go ahead in wet weather and the community is invited to attend.
Speaking is the Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club president, Brent Jackson and North Bondi Surf Club president, Andrew Christopher.
Our speakers will share their insights about the Queen's visit to Bondi on 6 February 1954 for the Royal Command Surf Carnival. An honour guard was held on that day to welcome the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip.
See Waverley Library's fact sheet about the historic visit.
Condolence books are available to sign during business hours at the Bondi Pavilion Welcome Centre, Waverley Council chambers and the Waverley Customer Service Centre, Spring St, Bondi Junction.
You can also sign Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet's online condolence book here.
