Council has extended 24/7 Alcohol Free Zones in force on its streets and footpaths in Bondi Junction and Bondi Beach. 24/7 Alcohol Prohibited Areas remain in place at Tamarama, Bondi and Bronte beaches as well as Biddigal Reserve, Tamarama Park, Ray O’Keefe Reserve, Boundi Reserve, Hunter Park and Clementson Park and Eora Park in Bondi Junction.

Council has also decided to consult with key stakeholders, including Surf Life Saving Clubs, Precincts, and the Local Police Area Commander over a proposal to trial alcohol consumption at Bondi Park and Bronte Park between the hours 12noon and 7pm over summer.

The Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos said consultation with key stakeholders is an important step in the decision process.

“We need data and input from our stakeholders such as Bronte, Bondi and North Bondi Surf clubs, Precincts and the Chamber of Commerce before we make any decisions in the trial,” said Mayor Masselos.

No changes to the current prohibition on alcohol consumption at these parks can be introduced without the formal approval of both Council and the Police Area Commander.

A report detailing the outcomes of the consultation will go to November Council for further discussion on the trial.
