Winners Announced – Waverley Art Prize

The winners for the 2017 Waverley ArtPrize have been announced overnight at a vibrant awards ceremony at theWaverley Woollahra Art School.
With an annual prize pool worth $12,000,the Waverley Art Prize is open to painting, drawing and printmaking for artists18 years and over.
This year’s prize presents 40 worksselected out of 680 submissions by Judges Wendy Sharpe (artist) and WillSturrock (Director, Michael Reid Sydney).Mayor of Waverley, Sally Betts said many of thewinning artists over the years have gone on to enjoy great artisticcareers.“
At Waverley, we are very supportive of the arts andcultural community. The Waverley Art Prize is special because it has been astepping stone for artists in Sydney and Australia.
The prizes were presented by Mayor Betts, alongside co-judgesWendy Sharpe & Will Sturrock.

Co-judges Wendy Sharpe & Will Sturrock said the Open Prize wasdeservingly awarded to Maz Dixon for her artwork titled Shangri La. “It’s an original concept that is nostalgic andhumorous.”
“The works this year are nothing short of wonderful. Nicola Smithreceived The Mayors Prize for her work, Brussels1982, on the settee 1. We have great art work in the Eastern Suburbs, it’sthe best place to live and visit – Waverley really has it all!” Mayor Bettssaid.
The winning artworks along will all finalists are now on displayat the Waverley Woollahra Art School, 138 Bondi Road, Bondi. The exhibitionwill run from the 7 July – 16 July 2017, 10am – 5pm daily.
