You may not know the name immediately, but you definitely know her work.

The Australian artist behind the iconic Wonder Woman comic will be talking to fans next week at Waverley Library.

Nicola Scott has worked for DC Entertainment for over 10 years producing a repertoire of work including Wonder Woman, Teen Titans, Superman, Batman, Batgirl and Black Canary.

In recent years she has branched out and launched an original series in collaboration with writer Greg Rucka, to create the hugely successful Black Magick.

The talk ahead of International Women’s Day, is a clear example of succeeding in a notoriously male dominated industry.

International Women’s Day (8 March) is an internationally recognised day which appreciates and celebrates the achievements of women world-wide, and focuses on action to improve gender equality.

In an industry that's often perceived as being very male dominated, this modest artist has made a splash in what she calls ‘the boys club’.

"To come from that zero point to where I am now - or even to the point of just having a job at DC - was incredible."

Nicola landed the dream job with the comic book brand in 2006. Coming from a big family of creative women, it’s no surprise she has been successful. Among her accolades is featuring on USA Today and in Vogue Australia.

Nicola say the road to success has not been an easy one.

“I was a lifelong Wonder Woman fan, but in my late 20’s I came to the realisation that someone -somewhere - was being paid to draw Wonder Woman for a living and that’s what I wanted to do, but I had no idea where to start.

“It look four-and-a-half years to get the job at DC. I didn’t take ‘no’ for an answer.

“I encourage anyone who has a dream to stay focused and know anything is possible.”

In this free entertaining and informative talk Nicola will discuss her career and how she got into the industry.
