Following last night’s powerful episode of Bondi Rescue,Mayor of Waverley, Sally Betts publicly acknowledges the tireless work the Council Lifeguards do on a day-to-day basis.

“I am extremely proud of our lifeguards and the work they do for our community keeping our beaches safe. Every day they go to work not knowing what’s install for them.

“Recently, they had the unfortunate task of trying to rescue a pair who got into difficultly at Bondi Beach.

“The woman was pulled from the water unconscious and resuscitated despite later being told her chance of survival was incredibly slim. Her brother-in-law unfortunately was unable to be revived.

“Our lifeguards are the best in the world. They do an extraordinary job keeping our beaches safe and never give up on educating the community on the dangers they may face in the water.

“We encourages everyone to swim within the flags,be conscious of signs indicating dangerous conditions and always listen to the direction given by lifeguards. This will ensure everyone will have an enjoyable time at the beach.

“This tragic incident and the episode of Bondi Rescue highlights how quickly the oceans conditions can take a life despite the best efforts and skills of our lifeguards.

“The team did an exceptional job rescuing this pair and our gratitude and appreciation cannot be put in words.

“They save thousands of lives every year and for that we have the highest level of trust in the work they do for our community. Great job, you are an inspiration,” she said.
