To improve pedestrian safety in Spring Street, one of two lanes at the exit of Eastgate Carpark will close on 7 July in a seven month trial.

Waverley Council conducted a traffic study of the precinct, monitored the car park entries, exits and roads around the car park.

This study found the closure will have minimal impact on traffic flow and improve pedestrian safety on Spring Street.

Water filled crash barriers and signage will be clearly visible in the car-park to indicate to motorists where the changes are enforced.

“Having two lanes of traffic exiting the Eastgate Carpark and turning left into Spring Street makes it quite difficult for the many pedestrians who walk along the pavement.

“Changing it to only one lane will make it much easier and safer for our community and in particular our older residents, many of whom use Spring Street.”

“If this trial is successful, the lane will become permanently close. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time.” Mayor Sally Betts said.
