02 June 2017 | Media Release
MEDIA RELEASE
For the first time in history, the Bondi Eye, a 32 metre high ferris wheel, will give visitors a birds eye view of the iconic beach during the annual Bondi Winter Magic program.
For the whole month of July, Bondi Beach will come alive with art, entertainment, food, music, culture, history and the famous, one and only beach ice-skating rink.
The spectacular month long winter festival kicks off on the 30 June till the 30 July. Last year attracting an estimated 60,000 visitors to the area.
The much loved highlight of Sydney in winter is the outdoor beach side ice-rink. Skate in the sunshine or under the stars whilst listening to the waves crashing on the beach.
Soaring high above the iconic Bondi Beach, the Bondi Eye will give visitors spectacular 360 degree views, enjoyed in a glass capsule and away from the chilly sea breeze.
“The return of this winter event showcases Bondi is not just a summer destination, but it’s a location for all year round entertainment.”
“The addition of the Bondi Eye is a fantastic drawcard and will offer a completely different perspective of our amazing beach. It’s guaranteed excitement for all ages,” said Mayor of Waverley, Sally Betts.
This magical winter event will also coincide with school holidays and Bondi Feast – a fringe style festival transforming Bondi Pavilion into a carnival playground celebrating the best in theatre, music comedy, visual arts and food.
Bondi Feast will showcase over 43 performances across a two weeks period from 18-29 July - Tuesday to Saturday nights.
Bondi Winter Magic has partnered with Bondi and Districts Chamber of Commerce, with selected businesses offering deals to shoppers and patrons, in keeping with the festive atmosphere and enticing people to the area.
The Chamber will also play host to Art on the Streets on Sunday 16 July in Roscoe Street and surrounds.
Art on the Streets provides the opportunity for emerging artist to exhibit their work outdoors. Visitors will have the chance to pick up original pieces from over 30 artists and photographers.
