Mayor of Waverley, Sally Betts is thrilled to announce an expansion of the partnership with Mark and Evette Moran into a multi-year sponsorship for the Nib Literary Award.
The award will now be known as the Mark and Evette Moran Nib Literary Award.
Mark Moran who was the Executive Director of the Moran Arts Foundation for 24 years, says art and literature are an important part of his and Evette’s lives.
“We have proudly supported the People’s Choice Prize of The Nib for several years,” said Mark Moran.
Now in its 16th year, the prestigious Nib award recognises excellence in literary research with the winning entrant receiving a $20,000 major prize.
Criteria considered by the judges include literary merit, readability and value to the community.
The award encourages both emerging and established authors to submit both fictional and non-fictional works of literature.
Co-sponsor Evette Moran is excited about the opportunity.
“We have been privileged to see first-hand how important these types of awards are to our writers, our thinkers, Australians delving into as well as celebrating our heritage. We are delighted to become principal sponsors.”
Mayor Betts said since its inception is 2002, the Award has become one of Council’s most valued cultural programs.
“The Nib is the only literary award of its type awarded by a council and has grown into one of Australia’s most respected literary awards.
“The Nib has attracted more than 1800 entries from all over Australia demonstrating the high esteem for the prize held across the literary community.
“We are so thrilled to secure a principal sponsor for The Nib”.
In addition to the first prize there are three other prize categories – the People’s Choice($1,000), the Alex Buzo shortlisted prize winner ($1,000), and a Military History Prize valued at $3,000.
The Nib is proudly supported by Waverley Council, Mark and Evette Moran, Friends of Waverley Library (FOWL), Gertrude and Alice Bookshop and Cafe, Bondi Icebergs Club, and Bondi Junction, North Bondi, and Rose Bay RSL Sub-Branches.
