MEDIA RELEASE

Two new exhibitionsare now open at the Waverley Libraries Galleries which use drawing- but not asyou would expect.

Both Waverley Sketchflash and Analogue Disturbances are created bydrawers, who use a digital component to document the daily life and culture ofthe Waverley Library.

Waverley Sketchflashis a weekly community drawing group which uses the library as its subject. Thedrawings from this group are then digitised to create a new digital archivewhich is now on exhibition.

Runningsimultaneously in the Atrium Gallery is AnalogueDisturbances by emerging artist Grant Stewart.

Unlike Sketchflash, this exhibit is entirelycreated by a robot. The robot autonomouslywatches visitors to the library and uses their presence as a catalyst to decidewhat type of mark to make and when.

Grant, the artistand inventor, says he very excited about presenting his work to the library.

“When nobody isaround the robot goes into holding pattern, drawing a void, but when someonewalks past they activate a motion sensor which triggers the machine to producegeometric patterns based on each unique movement, thereby capturing a smallpart of the audience.”

Mayor of Waverley,Sally Betts said the library is very supporting of showcasing contemporary art.

“It’s delightful tosee two innovative exhibitions which document the culture of this veryimportant institution in the eastern suburbs.

“We are so veryproud of the Waverley Library and all its achievements.”
