Sydney mayors stand together against racism

In an historic meeting, over 20 mayors representing diverse communities from across Sydney met this morning at Bondi Pavilion to find ways to foster social cohesion and fight racism. The Social Cohesion Roundtable was established and hosted by Cr Will Nemesh, Mayor of Waverley, Cr Ned Mannoun, Mayor of Liverpool and Darcy Byrne, Inner West Mayor.

Councils representing the majority of Sydney gathered at the Bondi Pavilion to develop plans to fight increasing acts of aggression.

The roundtable urged the State and Federal Governments to take action including partnering with Councils to combat antisemitism and protect all communities from vilification; enhancing legislation to combat hate crimes and providing security infrastructure to safeguard at-risk communities.
